Milton Track & Field Qualifies 14 to State Meet:
7 boys & 7 girls will lead the Eagle Effort in Rome
The Eagles will send a large contingent to the GHSA 5A State Meet this week in Rome, GA as Milton will contend for many podium positions after a very successful Sectionals meet at Greenbriar HS in Evans, GA over the weekend.
GIRLS
Led by one of the state’s top-sprinters, freshman Sa’Niyah Williams will head to the state meet in 3 events and as one of the favorites in all three! Williams started her day with a stellar 100m race (2nd-11.81) shattering the school record (12.04) & became the first Lady Eagle to go sub-12 seconds in the 100 meters! Williams followed that up with another pair of runner-up finishes in the 400m (2nd-56.33) & 200m (2nd-24.56) to lead Milton. The lone victory of the day went to the team of sophomore’s Aarushi Dhawan, Lucie Gallagher with freshman Kenley Sirras & Sadie Katekovich in the 4x800m (1st 9:46.28) improving on their #3 performance in school history by close to 2-seconds! Qualifying for the state meet in two events, junior Alana Calhoun will go to Rome in the long jump (4th-17’4.75”) & the triple jump (5th-35’9”) after breaking both school records last week at the region meet. Joining her fellow Lady Eagles at the state meet, junior Gabrielle Michel (7th-35’2.5”) will compete in the shot put. Senior Drew Kellis, who did not advance to the state meet, closed out her Milton track career in the pole vault (12th-7’6”).
BOYS
Seven boys will make the trip to Rome to represent the Eagles at the GHSA 5A State meet this week in 6 events! Sophomore Will Chambers led the charge as he qualified for the state meet in 3 events! In the 1600m (4th-4:22.44) Chambers became the 10th best performer in school history, He followed that up in the 800m (5th-1:56.89) just missing his personal best & ran the anchor leg of the boys 4x800m relay team (5th-8:09.46) with seniors Justin Sevel & Robert Claypoole & junior Jayin Batra that resulted in the 7th best performance in school history! Three more Eagles made it to the state meet with 7th place finishes. Junior Lawson Estes (7th-5’10”) in the high jump, junior Everett Lawder (7th-9:36.05) in the 3200m run (becoming the 10th best performer in school history) & sophomore Harrison Sutton (7th-47’0”) in the shot put. Milton senior team captain Aviv Oshri (15th-10:18.51) did not advance to the state meet but closed out his Eagle running career and was a member of the 2024 Milton Boy’s state championship cross country team in the fall.
The GHSA Class 5A State Meet begins on Friday, May 9th at Barron Stadium in Rome, GA & concludes on May 10th. GOOD LUCK EAGLES!
