Is this your first year in Milton Track and Field? If so, you've come to the right place! With so much going on, it can be a bit overwhelming and chaotic. Below are some FAQs to help you on your way:
Q: Where can I get information about Milton Track and Field?
A: You have come to the right place! This website has been designed as a centralized hub for all things Milton Track and Field
Q: What are the reasons to join Track and Field?
A: You will find that athletes involved in Team Sports develop a high level of physical fitness, a sense of achievement, an “I can attitude”. and make a lifetime of memories… remember the lessons learned, friendships gained, and goals achieved.
Q: What makes Milton Track and Field special?
A: We strive to provide accurate technical training in all events and help athletes understand the importance of setting goals and objectives towards achieving them. You will develop health habits through daily conversations and conditioning opportunities, as well as learning the importance of teamwork. Track and Field is a team sport and every team memer plays a major part in our team's success.
Q: When does the Season begin?
A: We have an informational meeting for STUDENT ATHLETES and an informational meeting for PARENTS in December.
The season start January 27, 2025. Preseason conditioning starts January 13th from 3:45 to 5:15pm Monday through Thursday. Preseason Conditioning is designed to expose runners to proper running mechanics and light weight training that could reduce potential injuries during the season. Athletes MUST HAVE PHYSICAL and INSURANCE information loaded and approved in RankOne prior to participating in any Track and Field training. IMPORTANT: Dress for the weather by wearing layers. Wear Running shoes…don’t train in basketball or skateboard shoes. Bring plenty of water. If it is raining, preseason conditioning will be cancelled.
Q: Can anyone join?
A: Yes! It's no cake walk, but if you're willing to put in the work, we would love to have you on the team! Please note, school comes first, so all athletes must be in good academic standing to participate.

Q: What are the expectations during the season?
A: Attend all team events/ practice daily. Check-in starts at 3:45 pm. Practice ends at 5:45 on most days. Bring a note if your going to be late to practice (every minute late equals 5 burpees without a note). If an athlete has more than 3 unexcused absences the head coach has the right to dismiss the athlete indefinitely from the program. If you are sick, a parent must send notification to absentMHStrack@gmail.com and the absence will be marked excused. Communicate injuries with coaches and take advantage of treatment opportunities and times provided by school trainers.
Q: How often and how long do we practice?
A: Practice is 3:45p-5:45p Monday through Friday throughout the Season. Practice may end prior to, but not later than 5:45 pm on most days. Vertical and Horizontal field event practices may extend to 6:15 pm on certain days. No practice on the days we don’t have school (holidays/ No student days) –unless it is the day before a track meet, in which case, practice will be held during regular time.
Q: When are the Meets and how long do they take?
A: Meets are sometimes held during the week start at 4:30pm and can last until 10p. On Saturdays meets typically start at 9:00 am and ending around 5pm "all day" events. Athletes are expected to stay the duration of the meet, unless notified otherwise.
Q: Is transportation provided to "Away" meets?
A: Transportation is provided and athletes must be on time to meet the bus both to and from the meet. Athletes are allowed to transport themselves (only) but must have the proper paperwork submitted prior to trip. Athletes can not transport other athletes.
Q: What events will I get to do?
A: There are many events to choose from, and we encourage male and female athletes to try everything to determine where they excel:

Short Sprints - 100M, 200M, and Relays

Q: What do we wear?
A: For practice, dress in proper track and field attire. Example: running shoes, sweat suits, tights, shorts, (no jeans, boots, or deck shoes) etc. ) When traveling to and participating in a meet, athletes must be dressed in appropriate track and field uniform attire. While completing athletes must be in track and field uniform attire…no attire from another sport…football, XC, basketball, etc.
Q: What do I need to buy to participate?
A: In addition to paying registration and OSP fees. Your athletes will need to purchase a uniform (based on event) singlet or compression top, split leg running shorts and/or compression shorts, and team warm up. Athletes will need a good pair of running shoes (no large "air bubble" shoes, basketball sneakers, or casual shoes), and depending on what events you're selected for, possibly a pair of running spikes, but hold off on that until event selections are made.
Q: What determines if I'll be on JV or Varsity?
A: Based on Time-Trial performance in each event, top performers (per gender 30-46) will make the Varsity Team. The remaining athletes will be JV. Time Trials are typically in late January, with team placements announced afterwards. Low-performing 12th graders cannot compete on the JV Roster and will have limited competing opportunities in invitational "Varsity-Only" meets.
Q: Will I "Letter"?
A: Making the Varsity Team does not guarantee a Letter. Returning letter earners must meet listed time requirements. For New and returning athletes (that never lettered), there is a special lettering opportunity will be made available to 1st time lettering athletes if they meet the listed requirements.
Q: How does the Head Coach communicate to the Athletes and Parents?
Outside of this website, all "daily" communication occurs on the Stack Team App (link is on the home page)
Q: How do I know when my event will take place?
A: Announcements will happen frequently at Meets, so keep listening for your event check-in to be called (DO NOT MISS YOUR CHECK IN!!!). From there, do not wander off...stay with your heat and teammates in the queue area. You can also see the order of events on MileSplit (link on the homepage)
Q: Can I track my results?
A: MileSplit (link on the HomePage) will provide "real time" results during the meet, and will hold results in perpetuity.
Q: What are the school records for each event?
A: These are posted on the "Records" page and on the wall of the MHS stadium.
Q: This is great, but what do the PARENTS need to know?

Sign-up to volunteer at a minimal of 2 team events.

At meets cheer from the identified spectator areas (unless volunteering) during home and away competitions.

Weekend meet procedures: If your child is in a running event, he or she may not leave the meet until the conclusion of the meet and must sign-out with a coach at the conclusion of the meet. ***Early departure = TCO Team Commitment Opportunity/ jeopardies ability to letter

Away weekday meet procedures: After an athlete has finished their assigned events, they are able to sign-out to leave but must inform their training group coach.
